5 Tips for a Safe Independence Day

Blog posted On June 25, 2026

With 4th of July just around the corner, we wanted to share these tips ahead of time to ensure you and the family can have a fun and safe holiday weekend. The Founding Fathers wouldn’t have wished for future Americans to accidentally light their lawns on fire while celebrating the nation! So please, read these safety tips carefully, and help keep your loved ones secure and smiling this July!

  1. Fireworks & Sparklers
  • The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public firework show put on by professionals
  • Stay at least 500 feet away from the show
  • Leave any area immediately where untrained amateurs are using fireworks
  • Many states outlaw most fireworks, so consider celebrating with glow sticks, noise makers, or silly string instead

  1. Beach Safety
  • Stay informed about local weather conditions throughout the day
  • Stay alert, swim sober, and never swim alone. Make sure you have enough energy to swim back to shore
  • Young children and weak swimmers should wear a properly fitted U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket. Everyone should wear one when on a boat

  1. Heat Safety
  • Postpone or limit outdoor activities in the case of extreme heat
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and avoiding sugary, caffeinated, and alcoholic beverages
  • Spend time indoors when needed

  1. Skincare
  • Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before sun exposure
  • Use a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or higher
  • Reapply every 80 minutes
  • Don’t forget insect repellant!

  1. Pet Safety
  • Ensure your pet’s microchip and ID tags have the correct information.
  • If your pet isn’t microchipped, now is the time to do it!
  • Secure pets indoors before firework shows start

Keeping You and Your Family Safe Through Every Season

We hope you’ve learned how to keep your family, your pets, and your skin safe. You don’t want to feel like you’re in an episode of “The Pitt” and end up in the emergency room on the 4th of July! Drink plenty of water, lather up with sunscreen consistently, don’t swim alone, and watch a professional fireworks show from a secure distance. Nothing matters more to us than your health and safety!

Now go out and enjoy the celebrations!
