How to Battle Cabin Fever During the Winter

Blog posted On January 27, 2016

Whether or not you love the winter weather, a few days of being cold and stuck inside can get boring quickly. Here’s how to beat that cabin fever and make the most out of these cold, gloomy days.

Learn Something New – Take this opportunity to learn something new. This could be a new language, online graphics design classes, reading a book on a subject you’ve never explored, or even just watching the History Channel. Engaging your brain will help keep you from focusing on how bored you might be getting.

Take Up a Hobby – You probably have a list of things you would like to do either around the house or just for yourself. Turn that stack of pictures into the scrapbook you’ve been planning. Or grab that basket of yarn you bought and finally teach yourself to knit a scarf. Or head on out to the garage and start that woodworking project that has taken over that one corner. Get moving!

Plan Indoor Activities – Being inside doesn’t have to be a drag. Plan activities like board game tournaments, talent shows with the kids, or build a fort for a movie marathon.

Take an Adventure Outside – Too often we keep ourselves confined indoors when the weather is too cold, wet, or snowy. But if there’s a break in a storm, take advantage of it! Put on those boots and head outside to hop in puddles, build a snowman, or go for a quick walk around the block. Quick breaks outside will help you feel less trapped by the weather.

Explore Your Cooking Skills – Not only will cooking and baking allow you to try some new delicious recipes but it will also help warm up your home! Go online, pull out a cookbook, or follow along with the cooking channel. Engage everyone in your home to make it a group project while having fun together.

Don’t let the winter blues get you down. Make the most of the weather by enjoying cold weather activities!
