9 Home Tips for Fall

Blog posted On September 29, 2014

Don’t let fall creep up on you! With kids headed back to school, acclimating to work after vacation time, and readjusting to the rigorous schedules this time of year, it’s easy to get caught up and forget about caring for your home until something goes wrong. Prepare and prevent the stress of an unexpected issue. Here are nine easy steps to follow to get your home ready for the fall season:

Clean your gutters. Leaves and twigs block the passage of water away from your home and off your roof increasing the likelihood of leaks.

Trim trees and bushes. Protect your home’s exterior but trimming back shrubbery.

Check exterior lighting. Increase visibility as well as the safety of your home by making sure it is well lit for the gloomy weather.

Service your heating system. Don’t get caught shivering in the storm. Make sure your heating system is working properly.

Test carbon monoxide alarms. Carbon monoxide alarms are incredibly important especially as we increase our use of fireplaces and candles.

Replace batteries in smoke detectors. It’s that time of year again! Replace batteries for optimal functioning.

Cover outdoor furniture. Prevent wear and tear on that beautiful outdoor furniture set by covering it or storing it for the season.

Drain all faucets and hoses. Save water by turning off all faucets tightly and draining hoses.

But our favorite tip?
Decorate! Bring out those pumpkins and harvest colors. Make sure anything flammable stays away from candles and the fireplace. Create your own cozy oasis as the clouds, rain, and snow begin rolling in. Not only does this reduce stress, it makes your home yours.
