Secretary Carson’s Listening Tour is Underway

Blog posted On April 26, 2017

In an effort to better understand the state of American public housing, US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson is traveling the nation to get an up close look at local communities.

Most recently, Secretary Carson visited Oklahoma City, the site of one of the worst domestic terrorist tragedies in American history.  On April 19, 1995, a truck bomb driven into the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building killed 168 people, including 25 members of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.  Secretary Carson spoke at the 22nd Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony of the Oklahoma City Bombing.

Secretary Carson gave special recognition to the HUD employees impacted by the attack, “there are also 50 HUD employees who survived that day – 14 who still work at HUD.  Their commitment to serving their community is as strong as ever, and the strength they demonstrate stands as a testament to our nation’s resilient character.”

Some of the housing affordability problems Secretary Carson currently faces include the distribution of housing vouchers, regulatory issues, and the low-income housing tax-credit program.  Through the listening tour, he will be able to gain valuable insight.
