Last Minute Holiday Ideas

Blog posted On December 15, 2015

The holidays are among us and our calendars are booked. Here are some last minute holiday ideas to make sure you squeeze in the holiday spirit.

Attend a play – Many local theaters have shows regularly through the holiday season. Whether you catch a comedy or the traditional Nutcracker, take a look at tickets for your local theater for a fun evening out with the family.

Volunteer – Nothing brings you back to reality from the hustle and bustle and the focus on consumerism like volunteering. Do some research on which organizations need help this time of year by contacting your library, local schools, or even town hall. Get involved with passing out food to the homeless, helping set up the holiday parade, cleaning up holiday decorations in January, or collecting donations for charities. No matter what you do, volunteering your time is a great way to spend the days of giving.

Craft Fairs – It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a unique gift for someone on your list or just want to check out the local crafters in your community. Many towns host craft fairs allowing artists to showcase and sell their goods just in time for the holidays. Some even host a kid’s corner to encourage creativity amongst the little ones!

Tree Lighting – From the east coast to the west coast, tree lighting ceremonies happen all through the month of December. Find out when your town or a town nearby will be lighting up the tree for a fun evening out with the family. Bundle up and enjoy carols, hot chocolate, and other holiday fun with your neighbors.

Light Viewing – Bundle up the kids, grab the camera, load up the car, and start cruising. Heading all over town to check out the lights and decorations on homes is a fun way to get into the spirit of the holiday. Crank up some festive music on the radio, roll down the windows, and enjoy the lights lighting up your town this season.

The holiday season often gets so busy that many forget to slow down and enjoy the smaller things about the holiday. Consider some of the suggestions here to forget about presents and money and simply embrace the holiday cheer.
