Give Your Fireplace an Upgrade

Blog posted On January 08, 2016

The winter months are still among us and with it, more attention is drawn to warmth. Maybe you’ve overlooked your fireplace or put off upgrading it. But now is the time! Check out these upgrades that will give your fireplace new life.

Add glass doors – Section off your fireplace with glass doors. This small change brings a sense of elegance to the area.

Add a mantle – A mantle is the frame around the fireplace. This can be created from a variety of materials but helps create more space for you to use in decorating and bringing a room together. Pictures, candles, plants, or even unique items can help tie in the fireplace with its surroundings.

Tile the hearth – The hearth of a fireplace is often overlooked. Add some tile to this area to give it its own character as well as help prevent soot from creeping onto your floor.

Stone-Veneer – Create a stone-veneer that reaches to the ceiling. Check out our local hardware store to determine which stone would best suit you and your home. Then send people’s eyes to the sky by creating a tall stone-veneer accent that mimics the chimney.

Add art – A fireplace is generally a major focal point in a room. Livening it up as well as adding art is a great way to accentuate this feature even more. Have fun, be creative, and add your own touch.

Make it gas, or add candles – Another hot trend right now is converting a wood-burning fireplace to gas. Not only does this help with the cleanup, but also it makes starting the fire and maintaining it a much easier task. On the flip side, consider adding an array of tall, wide, and elegant candles inside your fireplace. Doing this adds a more modern look to the fireplace while still displaying its sense of warmth and welcoming, just in a unique way.
