Get Your Home Back-to-School Ready

Blog posted On August 14, 2015

School is creeping up fast now. Before the bell rings, get your home back-to-school ready by following these easy steps.

Backpack Area – The kids are either running out the door at the beginning of the day trying to find their backpack or back in throwing their backpack not looking back to see where it lands. Designate a specific backpack area whether there are hooks for hanging or a bench to place them, this will help keep your house looking tidier as well as the backpack easier to find.

Homework Spot – It’s easy to sit down in front of the TV or at the kitchen table with countless distractions and only half the focus on homework. Instead, create a small, quiet area for the kids to focus on their assignments for the evening. Try to make it a spot that is game-free, cellphone-free, and clutter-free. An area designed solely for focusing and completing homework will help students do better in school.

Healthy Snacks – Rather than reaching for sugary or highly processed foods after a day in the classroom, have healthy alternatives on hand for the quick grab-and-go snack. Keep your kids’ brains active and well fed with snacks that are actually good for them.

Shoe Bin – Do you have the rule: no shoes in the house? Provide a small bin or shoe rack near the door or in an entry closet for the shoes to go rather than all over the floor. This will prevent mud and dirt from tracking through the house as well as creating a bigger mess right by the door when the shoes go flying off after school.

Supply Closet – Maybe you don’t have room for an entire closet of school supplies but dedicate a drawer or small tub with necessary supplies that will be needed to complete projects. Having the tools on hand to excel in school will motivate students to have fun while using them.

Don’t let the start of school turn your home into a chaotic scene. Follow these steps to stay organized and clean as the kids head off to the classroom.
