Common Household Ingredients Used for Cleaning

Blog posted On January 25, 2016

Tired of spending a fortune on cleaning supplies that seem to only do half the job? Here are some common household items that can be used to clean your home:

Baking soda – A common ingredient in most households, baking soda is often a go-to cleaning ingredient due to its safe and yet effective cleaning features. It basically causes dirt and grease to dissolve safely and quickly thereby allowing for an easier cleanup. While many store-bought cleaning products are harsh on surfaces and smell strongly of chemicals, baking soda is a great alternative when trying to save money, and potentially the environment.

Vinegar – Much like baking soda, vinegar, namely distilled white vinegar, is regarded as a safe and effective natural household cleaner. One of the main differences is obviously the smell that vinegar has when being used to clean.

Lemon – Lemons are used to add a kick to our food or glass of water, but have you tried cleaning with them? Lemons and their juices are a gentle replacement for bleach around your home. They work well at breaking down dirt, grease, and grime and also aide in providing a fresh scent. They are used on clothes to remove stains as well as in conjunction with vinegar simply to help cut the smell vinegar leaves behind.

Got another common household ingredient you regularly use to assist you with your cleaning? With “green” cleaning gaining in popularity to help the environment and your pocketbook, it’s no surprise we’re finding new uses for items already in our cabinets.
