Texas Volunteers Give the Gift of Green Housing to Veterans

Blog posted On November 16, 2016

Volunteers in Montgomery County, Texas are converting unused shipping containers into sustainable housing for homeless veterans.  Green Zone Housing provides a permanent living space at a low construction cost.  All homes are built out of 40-foot shipping containers and veterans take part in the project management of their new homes.

Executive Director, Mark Cook explained the hardship many veterans face, “this model home is a visual metaphor of what can be done to assist our veterans, as it goes from being used and tossed aside to an impressive, stylish home for our heroes.”  Using the recycled shipping containers eliminates community waste and lessens the building cost.

The project brings members of the community together with struggling veterans to solve the problem of homelessness and build better relationships.  Montgomery, TX is the first official site of the Green Zone Community and fundraisers are going on now.  To learn more about how you can support the program visit: loveyourveterans.org.
